A Sight to Behold
A Sight to Behold is one of the 60 Creative Communities projects funded by Hull 2017. Lead Artist Jemma Brown has worked with regional Sight Loss charities around Yorkshire and Lincolnshire including; HERIB (Hull & East Riding Institute for the Blind), SRSB (Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind), YBPSS (York Blind and Partially Sighted Society), Selby District Vision and South Lincolnshire Blind Society to create the finished sculptural piece displayed at the Eye Hospital in Hull.
The main focus for the project was for participants to explore their experiences as a visually impaired individual through tactile medium. In a series of workshops participants explored memories, hobbies, individual conditions, and messages for an audience. Initial workshops were run using luxurious tactile papers supplied by G.F Smith of Hull. Ideas were then developed using modeling materials and cast using poly – resin plastics. These tactile plaques will be displayed at Artlink until the New Year, and then returned to the societies involved in the project.
The final sculptural piece is on display at the Eye Hospital at Hull Royal.
