Artlink has organised a free training day covering matters relating to diversity which will be delivered by specialist partners. This training is open to anyone with an interest in these areas but is particularly aimed at people working in the arts and the third sector. The sessions have come out of Artlink’s recent involvement with the 2018 Engage conference and form part of the Square Peg programme, commissioned by Hull 2017 UK City of Culture and funded by Spirit of 2012.
The day is split into two halves, with the morning delivered by MESMAC and the afternoon by Pyramid of Arts. There is a one-hour lunch break from 12 – 1pm. Hot drinks will be provided but you should bring your own lunch.
Trans Matters: Moving from Awareness to Allyship (MESMAC)
A look at the barriers faced by Trans people in everyday life and the consequences of these barriers. We explore subjects such as pronouns, visibility and aspects of the law. This is a group-led experiential session with lots of opportunity to discuss and ask questions. We then move onto how we can start to break down these barriers and ask ourselves “what can you pledge to do as a Trans ally?”
Who Has The Power? (Pyramid of Arts)
Leeds-based Pyramid of Arts have run arts groups for people with learning disabilities for 28 years. More recently they have begun to run ‘Development Teams’ where one artist with learning disabilities & one without collaborate. This workshop explores some of the many interesting questions these new relationships has posed. Is the artist without learning disabilities a teacher, collaborator, producer, assistant? Or can both the artists in fact learn and develop equally from the partnership?
