Charlie Eden’s practice is rooted in the tradition of painting, using the observed subject as his reference for imagery. But the manner with which he paints plays as important a role, as the product. He believes that human action has emotive meaning that is recognised through paint; often resulting in a continual layering of media in order to capture both the subject and ones disposition throughout the process. Layers of emotion are derived from the subject presenting a meaningful venture through the process of making and craft of materials. And as viewers we witness a resolved piece of the fleeting temporal experiences of actions within an atemporal object.
Artlink’s Spotlight programme is focused on showing work by emerging artists based in the Humber region. There is an open submission process to submit your work for consideration, which you can find out more about here.
