Explorers is an opportunity to be part of something new and unique in Hull.
Being an Explorer means that you will discover, investigate, collaborate, and make exciting art in professional spaces.
Young people ages 7-16 have the opportunity to gather weekly with us in our studio space at Artlink Hull | 87 Gallery, with exclusive after-hours access to our exhibitions, or at one of our three unique Hull Libraries locations across the city.

Develop fundamental skills from observational drawing and traditional processes through to 3D work and experimentation with CGI, video, sound, and more
Develop personal outcomes with the guidance of our Engagement Producer - artist and qualified teacher Matt
Gain insight into creative careers through collaboration with local and national artists and designers, plus exclusive trips and visits
Explore ways of extending 2D work by using digital platforms from Creative Cloud through to game development and programming software to create powerful visual experiences
Learn about new materials as well as innovative technologies and how they’re being used by contemporary artists
Boost GCSE and A-Level/college coursework with opportunities for 1-1 work with Matt and our Photography facilitator, Ruby

Join our jam-packed Photography Summer School to explore digital and analogue cameras, and experimental techniques with local photographer Ruby Deverell
Develop skills in an exciting, professional gallery space with no pressure on producing outcomes. We will learn about composition and manual settings, and produce a photo-book with personal outcomes made over a 3-day course.
Through a practical introduction to Ruby’s own freelance practice, we will also develop an understanding of commercial or client-based, freelance and self-directed professional careers.

At each of our three library locations, young people work with local artists to develop new skills, make new friends, gain confidence, and bring about change in their local community.
Collaborate and produce an exhibition for the annual Big Malarkey festival and design displays for each Mini Malarkey
Gain insight into creative careers through sessions with local guest artists
Develop creative research skills by using books to explore themes and plan new projects
