Prempeh worked under the guidance of our onsite screen printer, Fraser Briggs, to create this limited edition over the course of two days. Prempeh developed Black Eyed Susan (Hull) by painting elements that were translated to screens and hand pulled each one herself.

"My time printing at 87 gallery was both fun and eye opening, it was my first time creating screen prints and the print process went smoothly. We prepared several screens for the print and I was surprised how quickly I learnt a great technique. Fraser is an amazing teacher and very positive towards any ideas I wanted to try and concerns I had." - Emma Prempeh

Emma Prempeh is a British artist with Ghanaian and Vincentian heritage based in London. She has won the Ingram Collection Purchase Prize (2019), the Alumno Space Bursary Award (2019) and was a participating artist in Bloomberg New Contemporaries (2019). She also won the Valerie Beston Trust Arts Award (2022). Emma is represented by Tiwani Contemporary, London & Lagos. Within her multimedia paintings and digital projections, internationally acclaimed artist Emma consistently returns to the theme of home. Early memories of family provide a foundation for her understanding of her presence in the UK as part of the African-Caribbean population. Recently, she’s been investigating the coping mechanisms that diasporic communities establish to help grasp a sense of identity in (un)familiar environments. Using magic realism, she re-examines the diaspora through storytelling and myth, commenting on the circularity of time and memory. Her work assesses her personal relationship with place and highlights the stories of others who share a similar existence.
