Associate Curator
Fixed Term Contract, 0.4 FTE
Do you share our commitment to artist development, and a passion for platforming outstanding contemporary visual arts experiences in Hull?
We are excited to announce an amazing opportunity to join us as Associate Curator (Fixed Term) at Artlink Hull | 87 Gallery.
After 5 years in post, our Curator Becky Gee will take a career break this year to complete her PhD from Teesside University and MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art).
Our Creative Director Lindsey Alvis said:“Becky has been instrumental in crafting the visual art programme at Artlink Hull | 87 Gallery over the last 5 years. As a small, dynamic organisation supporting our team to reach their potential is important to us and we know Becky will benefit from this career break to complete her PHD. We are also excited to recruit a fixed term cover to join us during this pivotal moment bringing new energy, ideas and delivery practices over the next 18 months”
Becky said “The exhibition programme at Artlink Hull | 87 Gallery enables artists to experiment and push their practice in new ways. It's been my privilege to support this work within a dynamic organisation that works flexibly. I can't wait to see how it develops under the guidance of an Associate Curator.”
The Associate Curator (Fixed Term) will lead on the programming and delivery of 87 Gallery’s visual art programme, overseeing the development of high-quality exhibitions, commissioning artists from under-represented backgrounds and encouraging experimentation in the production of ambitious new work. You will provide high quality arts experiences for audiences, embedding dialogue and co-creation in our commissioning process and supporting the symbiotic relationship between our exhibitions and our learning and participation programmes.
“I have really enjoyed working with everyone because everyone is so friendly, and I feel at home and that has pushed me to work harder on this show. It’s been a great experience. Every time I have come here, every time I have interacted with the community, everything is so organised, everything is so considered, everyone is heard.” Feedback from Emma Prempeh (exhibiting artist, The Nearness of Elsewhere 2025).
"Exceptional exhibition. The work is mind blowing. It warrants repeat visits. Very powerful and moving. I like that it is about grief and that has helped me. The staff are wonderful and really helpful.” Visitor feedback for current exhibition Daylight Comes Through the Cracks by Isaac Yeboah, running until 27 June 2026.
We want to support you to do your best during the application process. If you have any access requirements or need any reasonable adjustments (whether that is an alternative application format, extra time, or adjustments for an interview) please contact us at recruitment@artlinkhull.co.uk.
